S’áxt’-Devil’s Club Serigraph

$600.00

“Devil’s club is an extremely important medicinal and spiritual plant in Tlingit culture and for many other Northwest Coast Indigenous peoples. It is a powerful species in the ginseng family.

Growing up in Sitka, I remember seeing small bundles of dried devil’s club hung above doorways to ward off evil spirits and harmful energy. These bundles were a familiar sight, and you can still see them around town today, including at the local hospital.

This print is a 2‑D homage to that multidimensional powerful plant. Within the broad leaf, you can find bright red berries, sharp spines, and even the tender young spring shoots. Hidden in the design is also a set of eyes, rolled back in a trance , crossing into the spirit world.

I hope this print evokes memories of protection and healing.”
